Who ARE Germany's Leaders?
President: Joachim Gauk
Chancellor: Angela Merkel
- The President is the symbolic and representative leader, like the queen of England. He can veto laws, but not stop them. That is his only power.
- The Chancellor is selected by the president, along with Congress voting. The Chancellor holds the true power.
In the USA, we have a president. Currently the president is Barrack Obama.
These two ways of having leaders are similar, and different at the same time. The German style of having a chancellor and a president allows for the leaders not needing, or trying to, be in many places at the same time. There are two people to cover the speeches, meetings, interviews, etcetera.
